Built in the City of Asbury Park by the son of the city’s first settler, Thomas Whyte, who received his land patent in 1670. It was originally constructed by Samuel Whyte, a master carpenter, in 1687 and was located in the area of North Asbury (where the Asbury Park High School is currently). The house was burned in an Indian raid in the early 1700s, but rebuilt by the Whyte's. It was moved in 1871 (where it was allegedly the home of Asbury Park founder, Mayor Bradley for a while) and again in 1924, to Asbury Avenue, in Asbury Park.
Finally, in 1953, William I. Thompson III, moved it to its current location and had it restored. These photographs are from the 1953 move and restoration. The house is a private residence and stands today on Lake Avenue in Wanamassa.
